D&D Books and Novels Ranked
Here’s our lists of D&D books and novels ranked! Whether you’ve been reading D&D books for a while or are new, this is a good way to see some of the best available. This is all subjective, of course, but it’ll be fun to see if your list mirrors ours in any way. I’ve spent a lot of time reading D&D novels over the years (and playing various D&D modules and adventures), and this is a compilation of all I’ve learned in the last 40 years of my gaming life.
Best D&D Novels of All Time?
We’ve written an article about the best D&D novels of all time that you might want to check out. I only list ten D&D books, so your favorite might not have made the list. Don’t worry. That doesn’t mean I think it sucks. Stay tuned as I will be writing more about the best D&D novels in future articles on this site. When it comes to reading D&D, you can never get enough, can you?
10 Best D&D Modules of All Time
These are the modules that fired imaginations and helped Dungeon Masters learn exactly how a game should be put together – with a bit of work and a lot of imagination. Remember, a good DM can make even a “bad” module a good one. With that in mind, here’s my look at the 10 best D&D modules of all time. See how many of your picks match up with mine for a fun drinking game!
10 Worst D&D Modules of All Time
We recently took a quick look at some of the worst D&D modules ever produced. The feedback was divisive to say the least. My list is subjective, of course, but I think I highlight some of the worst D&D adventures ever published. If nothing else, stop by to mock my decisions! In all seriousness, it’s a good look at some older D&D modules that haven’t stood up to the test of time.
D&D Books by Character Class
Next, we break down D&D books by the character class they highlight.
D&D Books with Wizards
I also compiled a list of the D&D novels with wizards in them – usually as a central focus. Wizards and other magic-using character classes in Dungeons & Dragons can be a delightful addition to any adventuring party, whether the DM is running a one-shot or an extended campaign. This extends to fictional D&D novels as well. When you add a wizard or magic-user as the main character, you’re likely going to have one hell of a story.
There’s something about D&D wizards that capture the imagination. Perhaps it is the range of possibilities that are available when you are describing the spells that are cast. You can picture in your mind’s eye fireballs, lightning bolts, blizzards, walls of flame, polymorph, teleport, and hundreds of other spells. When you consider how powerful they are, it’s easy to understand why many D&D wizards are portrayed as megalomaniacs. They are the most powerful class of character in terms of spells, and they can use them to kill, heal, or protect themselves and others.
D&D Books With Rogues
Not content with my wizard D&D novel list, I put together another article with the best D&D novels with rogues as central characters. Gord likely comes to mind, but will you remember the others on our list? The rogue archetype is a classic staple of D&D adventures and the same holds true when it comes to fictional portrayals of the Dungeons & Dragons world. In recent years, we’ve seen a huge uptick in the number of rogues in the pages of fantastic novels, and this list is sure to help you find some great books to add to your reading list if you’re looking to catch up.
Even if you’ve never played a rogue character, you’re sure to find a rogue among these pages to appreciate. These rogues include everything from thieves to assassins, and the list includes a few other books that wouldn’t exactly fit into other categories. The article includes a rogues gallery that should give you a strong idea of what to expect. If you’re a fan of rogues, there’s a lot of information on the internet dedicated to your favorite class. But, if you’re looking for a good novel to read, then this list of the best D&D books with rogues is just right for you.
Forgotten Realms D&D Books
Here’s some D&D books set in the Forgotten Realms.
Forgotten Realms Novels: Where to Start
Ever wonder about the Forgotten Realms Novels Where to Start? Maybe the Drizzt novels? Here’s a list in chronological order (to the best of my knowledge!) This is, of course, only one way to read the novels. It’s a good place to begin, though. I’ve done other articles on Forgotten Realms novels, so keep reading below.
Most Powerful Forgotten Realms Characters?
When considering the most powerful Forgotten Realms characters the first one that comes to mind is Myrkul. This arch-lich was the Lord of Bones and along with Bhaal was one of the most feared and powerful deities. Myrkul was a Lich and was also the god of death, with many followers. This makes him extremely powerful.
Why Forgotten Realms Books Are So Good
Forgotten Realms books are so good because they’re written by people who really like to tell stories. They’re written by people who grew up reading fantasy stories and want to tell their own stories. The writers of Forgotten Realms books are also the people who make the video games, the role-playing game, and the other books and games set in the Forgotten Realms world.
Dragonlance D&D Books
Here’s a few articles on Dragonlance D&D books.
Memorable Dragonlance Characters
Learn more about the major Dragonlance characters… Dragonlance is one of the most beloved settings of Dungeons and Dragons. While it might have faded away as new versions of the game were launched, there’s still a strong fan base for the setting.
Female Dragonlance Characters You Will Love
Want to know more about the female Dragonlance characters? We’ve got you covered. The classic series is a favorite here at LitRPG Reads, and we’re going to break down the best women in the D&D novel series.
Even More D&D Novels and Books
Here’s some other articles and resources about D&D novels and books that weren’t mentioned above.
Dungeons and Dragons Novels: Where to Start
In this article, I’ve attempted to help you find some of the best novels set in the D&D universe. I started reading D&D novels (official and not) back in the 1980s. The Guardians of the Flame series by Joel Rosenberg was one of my favorites even though it didn’t specifically deal with Dungeons and Dragons. I also heavily read the Gord the Rogue books by Gary Gygax and, of course, the Dragonlance saga by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. With all that in mind, here’s my Best D&D Novels to Start Reading first!
