GPT-3 Powered Rogue Backstory Generator

October 8, 2020 By Paul Bellow

Spread the love

Over the summer, I got access to GPT-3 API, and I built a set of twelve content generators. Yes, you can use AI to create D&D tabletop RPG content! Interested? Keep reading!

Do you need a quick backstory for your character? Love playing rogues? I’ve got some good news for you! Over the summer, I’ve built a set of content generators using GPT-3, currently the most powerful language model on the planet. Using AI, you can come up with a rogue character backstory for dozens of different races. You can choose the normal ones like wood elf, human, half-orc, and so on, but we have other options like leprechaun, minotaur, and more!

Here’s a list of all the races you can use at the LitRPG Adventures Workshop:

  • Dark Elf
  • Halfling
  • Human
  • Gnome
  • Dwarf
  • Goblin
  • Wood Elf
  • Half-Elf
  • High Elf
  • Half-Orc
  • Leprechaun
  • Hill Giant
  • Half-Giant
  • Satyr
  • Gremlin
  • Reptoid
  • Centaur
  • Brownie
  • Dwarfling
  • Ogre
  • Snow Elf
  • Troglodyte
  • Minotaur
  • Ratling
  • Insectling
  • Plantling
  • Spyderling
  • Chaos Gnome

Why Did I Create a Rogue Backstories Generator?

Why did I create this? Rogue characters are one of my favorite classes to play, yet there isn’t much information about their past. I’ve created this generator to give you more options and stories to be used when you are creating your character. While there is a cost for membership at LitRPG Adventures, you also get access to browse hundreds of items, spells, creatures, and character already created!

You can create your rogue character backstory at the LitRPG Adventures Workshop with the click of a button. You’ll learn about the character’s appearance, their history, their personality, and what they’re currently doing. Even better, at LitRPG Adventures, you can continue the story. After a rogue character backstory is generated, you can click a button to have the AI write an adventure for that character.

The powerful GPT-3 language model works by reading a large quantity of text and then figuring out common themes, places, and events. While this may seem simple, I guarantee you it’s a lot of work to get it just right. GPT-3 is able to write excellent stories based on a variety of different themes and settings, all with the click of a button – and a few seconds of your time.

I'm using GPT-3 AI for Dungeons & Dragons RPG content.

Come check out the LitRPG Adventures Workshop AI-powered generators today and join our growing community! Generate or browse creatures, characters, quests, spells, governments, warlock patrons, skills, dungeons, undead, and more!

I’ve got a lot of plans to make the rogue backstory generator even better. If you have any suggestions for improving it, feel free to send me a message. I’ve got a lot of ideas I’m going to implement in the coming weeks and months. I’m going to continue my work for the rogue backstory generators so you can generate the best possible backstory with the click of a button.

Several Rogue Backstory Generator Examples

Here’s a few examples of the type of rogue backstories you can generate for your RPG character.

Hrothgar Dwndzkhaolhun

Male Dark Elf Rogue

Born in The Pine Forest

Backstory:

Hrothgar was born to the Blackbough clan of the Dwndzkhaolhun tribe. The Dwndzkhaolhun tribe is a long-standing rivalry of sorts between the Blackbough and the Wornbough tribes. The Dwndzkhaolhun tribe is the largest in all of the Pine Forest region, and the most ruthless. As a child, Hrothgar was subjected to the most grueling physical training regimen. He refused to give into the pain and fatigue, and forced himself to work harder than any other. He saw this as a way to prove to his mother that he was indeed her son.

Personality:

Hrothgar is often quiet. He has a habit of being in the background, but he purports to be a great leader. He’s unusually inquisitive for a Dark Elf, and his seemingly infinite curiosity is what drives him to become better.

Appearance:

Hrothgar has short white hair and crystal blue eyes. His short stature and pointy ears often draw looks of suspicion. When not out on an adventure, he wears dark grey and black leather with matching boots. Hrothgar wields the longsword he took from his father’s corpse.

Start of Character:

Hrothgar has always dreamed of adventure, longing to leave the Pine Forest behind. Now that he has the chance, he isn’t about to let it slip out of his hands.

Lissandra uth Tegoth

Female Brownie Rogue

Born in The City of Tumford uth Tegoth

Backstory:

Lissandra grew up in a family of thieves. She was taken in by a family of brownies and learned their ways. At first, she had trouble fitting in, but she eventually became the best brownie thief in the city of Tumford uth Tegoth. Over time, she learned to love her new home and dutifully protects it from criminals and monsters.

Personality:

Lissandra is impulsive. She often speaks before thinking. When she does think, she often comes to the wrong conclusion.

Appearance:

Lissandra is small, wiry, and not well-groomed. She always wears a baggy shirt and pants.

Start of Character:

Lissandra is compelled to leave her city to explore the wider world. She has heard about the evil forces that have gathered in the kingdom of Grabisco, and she wants to find some way to stop them. Having just arrived in Grabisco, however, her knowledge of the land and its politics is limited.

Jörmungandr Sleipnir

Male Half-Orc Rogue

Born in The Mountains of Underbarrel

Backstory:

The half-orc was born to a band of yak riders who were renowned for their prowess in the saddle. His father was a great warrior, and his mother was so beautiful that she was regularly called a goddess by the local children. They all lived in peace and safety until the Lakiti raided their village, killing everyone except for the half-orc. After escaping into the mountains, he was taken in by a group of cave dwarves who taught him their ways. He became a master of the weapon of choice for thieves and rogues: the hammer. After years of honing his skills in combat and thievery, he set off toward Grabisco. Hopefully, his skills, reputation, and stature will allow him create a name for himself as a mercenary.

Personality:

Jörmungandr is known to be compassionate and merciful, but he can also be a little insensitive at times. He’s very serious about his work and takes great pride in his accomplishments. He is an expert at putting on an act, showcasing his ruthlessness and cruelty in order to get out of any situation.

Appearance:

Jörmungandr is tall and imposing with bright orange hair. He has a tough, leathery skin that depicts his life in the mountains. He wears a large, black, hide armor that covers his entire body and a large hammer. When he’s not searching for work, he enjoys reading about heroes and myths.

Start of Character:

Jörmungandr has decided to try his hand at being a mercenary and is currently looking for work in Grabisco.
